Crowns & Bridges
Crowns
A crown is a type of covering that completely covers a real tooth and is fixed in your mouth. They are used when there has been more extensive tooth loss from broken or decayed teeth.Crowns can be made from a variety of materials and are custom made by a laboratory to fit your mouth.
Anterior (front) crowns are made from porcelain whereas posterior (crowns on back teeth) are made from either porcelain, porcelain bonded to metal or metal crowns. Tooth coloured crowns made from porcelain give a more natural appearance and can be matched to the colour of your teeth.
Your dentist will discuss with you the most appropriate crown option for your tooth.
Bridges
A bridge is a fixed replacement for a missing tooth, you can only have a bridge if you have strong supporting teeth with good bone support.
There are two main types of bridges we offer at The Earl Shilton Dental Practice.
1) Maryland (adhesive) bridges.
2) Conventional bridges.
Your dentist will advise which bridge maybe suitable for a particular case.
Maryland (adhesive) bridges are adhesively cemented to the back of one of your supporting teeth with a wing attachment.
Conventional bridges utilise one or more teeth adjacent to the gap to hold the bridge. They are usually made from porcelain bonded to metal.
